People | Mayor of London & Greater London Assembly (GLA)

London has a directly elected Mayor and Assembly, in addition to local councils. The Greater London Authority has oversight of transport, economic development, spatial planning, culture and environmental issues. It also scrutinises the Metropolitan Police and London Fire Brigade. It levies an additional charge on council tax bills.

Conservatives are the largest group on the Assembly, scrutinising the actions of the Mayor and campaigning for a better deal for Londoners. The next elections for Mayor and Assembly are in 2008.

There are currently nine Conservative members on the London Assembly. Click on the links below for more information.
