West Norwood school gets 'qualified approval'

Lambeth planners have given qualified approval for the proposed layout of the new Elmgreen Secondary School in West Norwood which will open on a temporary site in Gipsy Hill Ward in 2007.

Parents with children coming up to secondary school age are relieved that the scheme is going ahead with the first 180 kids next year. Residents...

Lollipop lady nightmare makes a dream come true

Transport officials are to rush through 'road narrowing' measures for the South Circular going east from Tulse Hill at the junction of Thurlow Park Road and Lovelace Road.  It follows the resignation after just five days of the new Lambeth crossing patrol woman who had been promised way back in March. She quit after five 'near misses' and having her lollipop stick hit by a speeding juggernaut.

Good news for rats - Labour Lambeth supports them!

In a reversal of that New Labour maxim, 'August may be a good month to bury good news' - for rats that is. Labour Lambeth has just cut more than £300,000 from the housing estates' pest control budget, giving rise to fears that rats will be rampant in the hottest summer on record.

Labour's library lies exposed

I was astonished to read the Labour cabinet member's letter in the SLP blaming the former Tory/Lib Dem administration for a cut in the book fund. Believe me, the last administration increased the amount spent on books in Lambeth libraries after years of Labour underfunding.

I wonder if anyone remembers that the last Labour administration was about to close...
