| Transport officials are to rush through 'road narrowing' measures for the South Circular going east from Tulse Hill at the junction of Thurlow Park Road and Lovelace Road. It follows the resignation after just five days of the new Lambeth crossing patrol woman who had been promised way back in March. She quit after five 'near misses' and having her lollipop stick hit by a speeding juggernaut. At least three community groups have joined the Conservative councillors in highlighting the traffic hazards on the South Circular. Birbeck Hill and Lancaster Avenue will be upgraded. Transport for London (TfL) is also proposing to implement 'road narrowing' measures from January to April. If they work, the narrowing structures will become permanent." Conservative Group Leader Councillor John Whelan says: "It is thanks to the concerted action of local people that at last action is taking place. The nightmare experienced by the 'lollipop lady', which was reported in the press, did far more than any visits by our invisible MP or promises from the Labour Assembly member for Lambeth and Southwark."
