| Clapham Park Homes rapped over poster campaign | ![]() |
|||
| Clapham Park Homes, the government run quango that is planning to knock down huge swathes of the Clapham Park Estate, has been held to account by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) for misleading the public with posters. Vigilant Conservative campaigners in Thornton Ward lodged a complaint against Clapham Park Homes, which had used them to influence a 'yes vote' to its proposals by local residents. According to the official report on the ASA website, the advertisement watchdog found that the photographs used in the posters were not those of the three residents and one freeholder who had been interviewed. The regulator also discovered that the quotes used on the posters were not taken directly from the transcripts of the interviews. In its adjudication the ASA said the posters breached the |

agreed code of conduct for advertisers on the grounds of 'substantiation,' 'truthfulness', and 'testimonials.' The complaint was upheld. Councillor John Whelan, Lambeth's Conservative Group Leader, says: "It is disgraceful that Clapham Park Homes which is costing the taxpayer tens of millions of pounds should be found to have 'economic with the truth' in mounting a poster campaign. How can they be trusted? Heads must roll. Currently, one resident is seeking judicial review of their decisions. I hope he succeeds."
