Conservatives back cycle training scheme

Cllr Clare Whelan, Lambeth's Conservative spokeperson for transport, is urging Lambeth residents to take advantage of Lambeth's cycle training scheme.

The scheme has also received the thumbs up from BBC Newsnight's 'ethical man' - reporter Justin Rowlatt - after he received training from David Dansky (pictured with Clare during her tution session, right).

Cycle Training UK - a not-for-profit workers' co-operative promoting cycling - provide the service on behalf of Lambeth Council to all residents in the borough. The trainers provide a private one-to-one tuition in safe and confident road cycling for adults, children and families

anywhere in the borough. The training ranges from the instructor checking your bike to make sure it's roadworthy, carrying out emergency stops, cycling on busy Lambeth roads and learning how to communicate with vehicle drivers.

"Cycling is a great way to travel around our congested city, stay fit and healthy and help the environment," says Clare. "Since my tuition lessons I feel much more confident and safer on the roads, which has encouraged me to cycle more often."
