Labour in a spin over £220k staff bill

Labour Lambeth have unveiled plans to spend more than £220k per year of council tax payers' cash on 'spin doctors' and support staff under proposals approved by their Leader.

The unprecedented wage bill includes:

- £42,000 on a chief Alastair Campbell-style 'spin doctor'
- £99,000 on three deputies
- £81,000 on a PA, caseworker and receptionist

Cllr John Whelan, Lambeth's Conservative Leader, said: "This is an absolute massacre of the innocents - people are going to lose their jobs so Labour can put the snouts of their staff in the trough with inflated pay deals.

"Each group should have its own policy officer but Labour have completely ignored this long-standing concept. It is an attack on democracy, to try to silence the voice of the opposition."
