Longfield Hall to pay for Town Hall soft furnishings?
Longfield Hall is one of Vassall's great treasures. It is home to many community groups and well-run by a dedicated band of volunteers. But there is great concern that the 800% rent rise that's threatened there will go towards funding Labour's spending explosion on things like its full-time interior designer for the Town Hall, and the twice-monthly propaganda tabloid Lambeth Life.Stuart says: "The Council are behaving in a cruel and Scrooge-like manner: ramping up charges to voluntary and community organisations like Longfield Hall when they are wasting money hand-over-foot in the Town Hall.
"The other parties just don't seem to see that local people want services not soft furnishings. We need a councillor who will stand up for local facilities such as Longfield Hall."
What we'd do: The Conservatives' proposed alternative budget takes out all of Labour's sting to the voluntary sector – simply by removing the Interior Designer and reducing Lambeth Life back to once a month. Common sense, and it balances the books.
