Save our local Post Office campaign

The Gipsy Road Post Office and the Central Hill Post Offices - life lines for many residents in Gipsy Hill Ward - are under threat of closure. As a result, Gipsy Hill Conservative Councillors Andrew Gibson, Suzanne Poole and Graham Pycock are organising support for a petition to Save Our Local Post Offices.

An official consultation is under way but many residents fear the worst because Gipsy Road Post Office (pictured below) and Central Hill Post Office (picture right) have been earmarked for closure by the Post Office nationally, due to pressure from central Government.

Speaking about the Gipsy Road Post Office, Andrew said it should be saved because:
  • It is very profitable.
  • Customers are NOT likely transfer to another post office, and so custom will be lost to the Post Office overall.
  • Gipsy Road Post Office supports the local shopping parade, and it is vital for pensioners and others without private transport.
One local resident responding to our petition asks: "Will this government leave us anything The last 10 years have taken us back to Victorian times. No more closures!"

The Post Offices are under threat because the Government is reducing funding for the network, and because the Government has taken away a number of functions from Post Office (including Passport application forms and certain Government cheque services).
